It All Started With An Idea of Fiona and Delia's

The idea to plan a big celebration for Peg's 50th birthday all started with Fiona and Delia on February 20. They were staying overnight at their Aunt Betsy's house and they started talking about what they would love to give their mom for her birthday. Ideas like "I'd love to give her some time away" and "I'd love to let her pamper herself" and "I'd love to fix up some of the things in the house that drive her crazy!"

Well, one idea led to another and we hatched a plan to send her away for a surprise weekend while we had another crew work on doing some spring cleaning and fix-up!

The idea quickly took root with Rob and the rest of Peg's family signing up to support the mission - give Peg a huge surprise for her 50th birthday!

A Weekend at the Marsh

We've booked a guest room for Peg at the Marsh, A Center for Balance and Fitness.

She can use all the facilities including the spa, restaurant, meditation room as well as take any classes she desires.

There are beautiful trails surrounding the Marsh for hiking - sounds like the weather is going to be perfect for the weekend. Yippee!

As we have all worked together to plan this special surprise weekend for you, I am reminded again how lucky we are to have our family.

First, your girls are so loving, and the idea they came up with to surprise you was awesome. They have participated with enthusiasm – you can be so proud of them.

Rob has been so supportive and involved in thinking through what we can do – he understands how much the work we do on the home front will mean to you.

All the rest of our family members were on board immediately after learning about the weekend, and have contributed generously with ideas and the resources to make the whole thing happen.

So, we all hope that if you ever feel low or discouraged, you will feel the strength of your family’s love for you!

I think this time in our lives can be the best time ever -  so my wish for you is that you will look forward to the years ahead strengthened by knowing you are loved and excited about all the possibilities of what is to come.

Birthday Greetings From Mom

Dear Peg,

Your girls had a wonderful inspiration to plan a special weekend for you to celebrate your 50th birthday.  The whole family has had such fun as the plans have been laid.  You are a wonderful special person and it gives us all great joy to help you celebrate.  There are many wonderful years ahead - just ask your 81 year old mother.  We claim many joys for you in the years ahead as you move into your 50's.  You have courage, a wonderful concern for our world, a great love for your family and always a burning desire to do the very best you can.  I love you so much and look forward to being up in Minnesota and being able to spend more time with you.

Happy Birthday from Dad!

Peggy,

Your arrival was very memorable. I was late to the hospital to greet you because, as a printing salesman, that morning I was in Mendota, Illinois. I have never been in Mendota before or since.  I sold a good size order for some four color process sales sheets that I will never forget.

When I got the call that you were on the way, it became a foot race to Evanston Hospital and you won the race!  Mom reminded me that she had an appointment with her doctor that morning and he decided for his own schedule to induce labor.

You have been the source of so many fond memories throughout your life, and I give thanks daily for your arrival a half a century ago.

Have a wonderful celebration and savor it as we have this past week as we have enjoyed a small part in following the elaborate plans for this great celebration.

Peg,

I can't believe you are fifty; what a big deal.  You have so much ahead to look forward too with all the addtional  wisdom of fifty years.  I hope the next chapter in life brings lost of fun surprises and adventures that you can't even imagine at this point.  


You should be really proud of your girls they were excited to doing something special for you and have it be a complete surprise.  Rob jumped right in and was super supportive in pulling all of this weekend off.  We all wanted to do something that would give you a little slice of pleasure for a weekend.  When our lives are so busy we do not always get the chance to sit back and take care of ourselves.  Hopefully you got a taste of that this weekend. 


I hope that you realize how much we all love you and are glad that you are a part of our family.  Here's to another 50!
